Construction Halt At One Seaport, 161 Maiden Lane, Attributed To Building Leaning

Construction Halt At Fortis Property Group's One Seaport, 161 Maiden Lane, Attributed To Building Leaning

April 16, 2019

The reason for the construction halt at Fortis Property Group’s One Seaport, 161 Maiden Lane, has finally been revealed as the under-construction building has tilted 3 inches to the north. Fortis Property Group and contractor Pizzarotti, LLC. have terminated their contracts as the firms are at odds over the reason for the 670’ tower leaning. The issues were brought forth by RC Structures, the project’s concrete subcontractor. Pizzarotti claims that Fortis Property Group used a cheaper method to form the foundation work via draining and compacting the dirt as opposed to the standard pilings which would be driven into the soil. Fortis Property Group claims that Pizzarotti had poorly constructed the building but holds that there are no safety concerns. One Seaport is designed by Hill West Architects and if completed will feature interiors by Groves & Co. Douglas Elliman is the exclusive sales and marketing firm for the project. Fortis Property Group, who has now brought in Ray Builders, must fix the design and structural integrity of One Seaport before the developer can resume construction.
